Improving the match day experience and suggestions for the owners.

A pal of mine is a journo for one of the dailys and has regular contact with one of our co-chairmen

He's been asked for his thoughts and opinions on how to improve the match day experience (currently much better on a Sunday watching our boys play for their team.............) thoughts on the club in general and what would help lift the mood and atmosphere.

This is probably a good few months too late but this is genuine.

Is there any truth in the story that when Gold and Sullivan tried to improve the match day experience at Birmingham City they built a new stand facing the pitch at Villa Park?

I have followed West Ham since 1963. In all of that time various boards have taken the piss. We are told that the Caerns and Hills were forced by the FA through Ron Greenwood to give Bobby Moore a Contract before the 1966 world cup. This was followed by the refusal to invest in John Lyall's team which finished third; the delightful bond scheme; Brown and his eventual dalliance with Joorabchian; the Icelandic's and "the project" and flirtation with extinction. Throughout those times there was a joy in watching the team which came from the friendships; tribalism and passion of the fans. Put two of us in a room and we will argue about West Ham. Nearly all will smile and talk about worst teams; worst players; worst away defeats and in the same discussion move on to life changing events and the great highs. Europe in the 70's and 80's and more recently Palermo and Cardiff. Great nights and games (usually one off's) both home and away. We knew the board often treated the players as badly as the fans (Moore; Bonds; Holland ) to name three. The shabby treatment of John Lyall typified all that was bad about the West Ham hierarchy.
This bunch of cunts have delivered something their predecessors could only have dreamt of. They continue in the destruction of decent human beings, in this case Bilic. We don't know, and never will, why the team fell apart after that last season at the Boleyn, Payet, the move are all cited but it seems much deeper. The signings have been uninspiring however was it a case of Bilic picking the best of the dross offered? Certainly the money allegedly spent V income does not bear mathematical scrutiny.
They tell us the move is progress. I agree that the Boleyn needed to change or a move was a good idea. But, is a move to a stadium where we have to move games because of peak shopping days or other uses for the ground real progress?
They tell us their is a waiting list for season tickets. I sit next to different people every week and there are regularly empty seats around. I am aware that West Ham tickets are the easiest premier league tickets for non fans to get hold of.
They told us that if we payed for our season tickets early then we could move seats. They lied. They took the money and we never heard from them again other than asking if we want to sell our tickets or sending club shop texts.
I used to stand on the chicken run, it was noisy, crude, passionate and tribal. It was an experience, win lose or draw. I now sit next to tossers on their phones taking selfies.
I get the definite feeling that if this lot hang around much longer we will have piped music after goals (Moyes will need to be sacked first as there clearly won't be many while he is around) and regular Mexican waves from the selfie taking tourists.
So my suggestion to the owners is simple. If, as was the case at the Leicester game, someone turns up in an Arsenal scarf, turn them away. If you promise to move someone if they pay for tickets early, move them. If you talk about signing world class players, sign them, if not keep quiet. Don't set people up to fail, Bilic clearly was and a six month contract for Moyes is a straight jacket.The deal for Zaza made success a virtual impossibility. Don't treat me like a customer, loyalty means patronage which is what a season ticket is all about, not a one off transaction. Stop pasteurising the experience. A Family enclosure/area should be reintroduced and if certain parts of the ground are a bit salty, so be it. the Americanised anonymised report regime should stay in the America, it should be a passionate experience not a quaker convention.
Treat us with the respect we have earnt and we will come back, carry on in the current manner and the families that have invested in this club for years (and yes Karren I do have a reasonable disposable income) will be gone as will our families and the clubs heritage.

The best possible match day experience apart from winning the match would be to look at the directors box and not see either Gold,Sullivan or Brady there.

As hard as it sounds that walk isn't going to improve...it is what it is.

What the club can do is make small changes first then look at the bigger ones later on

Personally I couldn't give a fuck if we had a 20 minute atmosphere like Friday at every home game, I will always hate the soulless trek to the stadium and being manoeuvred between stadium and station like someone unwanted. And that's always assuming that the opening of the Elizabeth Line means that the trains run for every game.

Saying that, the dad just posted to say the club have been in contact making a few promises to address the issues. Still worth hooking them up in case the club don't follow through.

it's shit and it wont be changing, prob best to remember this.
but it has been proven that you can generate a half decent atmosphere when everyone is engaged. thats where my focus would be - change some of the seating to safe standing, make the tickets cheap, make sure there is plenty of access to alcohol in and around the ground.
